The history of the mind : from psyche to psychology Upplaga 1

The History of the Mind – From Psyche to Psychology explores themes such as consciousness, the nature of the self and the boundaries between madness and sanity, dreams and reality. Guiding readers through the history of psychology, from its philosophical origins in ancient Greece to the modern-day use of therapies and pharmaceuticals, this anthology examines the distinction between soul, mind and brain, and explores shifting psychological paradigms. The writers included here are unafraid to challenge the dominant contemporary Western understanding of the mind, questioning whether the mind merely perceives the world, or in fact participates in the world’s creation. All perceptions of the mind are inseparable from the perceiving mind itself, therefore any attempt to examine it inevitably contains introspection; these essays boldly address this inherent limitation, while delving into ideas of human psychology from thinkers across the ages.
