The TAL learning-teaching trajectories offer a global pathway of students' development of mathematical understanding in the grades K to 6. Intermediate attainment targets are included in the trajectories. These attainment targets function as landmarks for the goals to be achieved at the end of primary school. The trajectory descriptions are meant as a guiding tool for the macro-didactic coherence in the mathematics curriculum and as a framework for making micro-didactic decisions. They can help teachers to enrich their use of textbooks. As such, the trajectories can contribute to the improvement of classroom practice and can give support to the teachers' professional development.
