As a co-founder of Oberon microsystems, Inc., Switzerland, he was involved in BlackBox Component Builder, one of the first development environments for component-oriented programming. He is a frequent speaker at industrial and academic events; has served on the program committees of many premier conferences, including ICSE, OOPSLA and ECOOP, as well as a referee for national research funding bodies in many countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, and the U.S. He is also the author of numerous articles and several books.
