Introduction to turbomachinery is the result of many years of teaching, research, and consulting within both the turbomachinery industry and university. It uniquely combines a comprehensive presentation of the fundamental principles with an understanding of the industrial design and pplicaion of a diversity of turbomachines. the need for an up-to-date text has been apparent for many years to replace the excellent but sadly outdated books still in use today. The treatment is fully aware of modern computing and experimental techniques which have advanced the subject, but remains focused on a basic physical understanding of the design and performance of turbomachines. The text covers the broad diversity of turbomachinery - including pumps, compressors, and turbines - and its application in areas such as gas turbines, process compressors and expanders, tirbochargers, and hydraulic turbines and pumps. The book has been developped from courses given by the authors, both to practicing engineers and to university students, over many years, so all of the materials has been field-tested, revised, and refined many times using this feedback. The text contains several hundred references and many photographs. Beacause of its unique combination of analysis and design, it is equally suited to engineers starting out in turbomachinery, established engineers who wish to update themselves with the latest ideas, and final year and graduate university students.
